Iowa County needs leadership that is experienced in Iowa County Law Enforcement and has worked countless hours with Iowa County Emergency services. Over the last 18 years, I have worked emergency services, right here in Iowa County.
Michael Peterson has been part of this community for many years, working tirelessly to make it a better place. Michael was born and raised in Iowa County and has dedicated his entire law enforcement career to Iowa County. Michael started as an intern with Iowa County Sheriff's Office and was hired as a part-time Correctional Officer/Dispatcher. Michael then was hired full-time in 2004. After a couple of years working Correction's and Emergency Dispatch, Michael then transferred to the patrol division where he was a Field Training Officer, Patrol Deputy, and eventually assigned as Director of Court Security. While a patrol deputy, Michael was a member of Iowa county Emergency Response Team, Car Seat Safety Tech, member of many community service organizations, and Law Enforcement Liaison for Iowa County Treatment Court. While involved with all this, Michael was a member of Dodgeville Area Ambulance Service, answering many emergency calls as a volunteer driver. In November of 2020, Michael was promoted as Jail Administrator, where he has led Iowa County's Corrections and 911 Center team. Over the years, Michael has also proudly worked part-time for Barneveld, Dodgeville, Linden, and Mineral Point Police Departments.
Michael Peterson for Iowa County Sheriff Team needs your help. Parades, word-of-mouth, putting up signs, and donating are all ways of helping us achieve our goals together. Please let know us if you are able to help in any way.
I am prepared to lead our team and agency into the future by continuing to battling the nation wide shortage of law enforcement officers and the affects that it has caused right here in Iowa County. I will continue to work with Iowa County administration on recruitment and retention to help prevent us from getting into crisis staffing levels.
I will continue to build strong working relationships with local and state law enforcement agencies, our fire and EMS agencies, emergency management, mental health services, and substance misuse and recovery communities. These great relationships that I have built up over my career and these resources are important to have strong partnerships with, because they all are trying to make Iowa County a better place for everyone, and when we can work together, it is a lot easier.
Programs we need to get back up and running in Iowa County is our K9 patrol, DARE, build stronger Iowa County Crime-stoppers, Drug Task Force Community Trainings. Some of the programs that we need to add are recruitment/emergency services educational team, jail to society reentry program, community outreach sessions, citizens academy, and text 911.
Our Team: We have an amazing team at the Iowa County Sheriff's Office we need to continue to invest in our team sending them to or hosting continued educational seminars and giving them the tools and resources they need to keep Iowa County safe.
